São Luis! (This post is a week late!)

Hello hello to everyone!

Sounds like everyone there has had a crazy week as always! Congrats to Lee and the graduation this week! Got a lot of pictures and looks like it was a good time! Sounds like it has been raining a lot there! Here as well it rained almost everyday this week which is annoying for sure! But congrats to Lee on finishing high school! We had our doubts but he graduated! haha And then off to Lake Powell. Sounds like a great week!

Things here in brazil are great! To start off with the bummer of the week, I think I told you that Elder Anderson had a meeting with us last week that everyone was super excited for! But that night we got a call saying that the meeting was cancelled because of some strikes that have been going on here in Sao Paulo! So we were told that we had to stay in the house the whole day, couldn't leave to to anything. So wednesday we stayed in the house the whole day. We cleaned the house up pretty well, did some studies and watched the movie about President Monson which is a good one! But a bummer of a day for sure! I'm pretty sure the strikes and riots aren't anywhere near my area or maybe even our mission, but they were taking precautionary measures, so we didn't work that day. Apparently the bus drivers in the center of the city and the police were mad with their wages and were breaking everything in the city! from what I hear!  But all is well now and we are back to work! Unfortunately Elder Anderson had to return back to the states so we didn't even get to meet with him which was a big bummer! I was pretty stoked! But maybe he will return in a little. Who knows?

As I said before, it rained a ton this week but the work continued. As for Ricardo and Aline they are still strong as ever! We met with them on saturday and had a good lesson! A member asked him yesterday if he would keep coming to church and he said "of course! every sunday I'm here!" He bore his testimony to us on how he has been to a lot of churches but he knows he has now found the true church and now his life will change! He's a beast and for sure will be the future bishop here! He said he should receive his birth certificate on Tuesday so we can mark a wedding date this saturday! So everyone keep them in your prayers so we can put a ring on it!

We had a family night at a member's house this week as well and we had another couple there that also have to get married...everyone has to get married oh my gosh! But I think they liked it a lot. We talked with Natalia and she said she liked it a lot! They couldn't go to church because they already committed to help her brother move, but she said this next Sunday they will, so we will see where they go. Need to put a ring on them as well!

This week I was in the area of the other elders and we made a contact with a guy who already was a member of the church. He said he didn't want to talk religion with us but if we wanted to talk about other things, he would listen. He said he already served a mission, worked in the bishopric, was the bishop and a high counselor. I'd say the hardest part of my mission is meeting people like this! People who know the church is true but have left it for one reason or another. It is sad to see people give up on the church of Christ. But what I have learned is that we can never stay in that comfort zone, thinking that our testimony is sufficient. We always have to work at building our testimony because we never know when the big trials will hit. We have to become converted to Christ so that we never fall away! That is something that I have been trying to do everyday so that after the mission, as well, I never enter that danger of leaving this church, because it is true!!

All in all, the week was good!! Hope everyone has a good week there! Have fun in Powell and be safe!!

Elder Holmes
