Not Just Fun 'n Games

Another week has passed by and I find myself here writing to you again! Wow the time flies by so fast I can’t believe it is already August! What happened with the year! I will admit that I have been waiting for "winter" to get here because it has been so blasted hot! Everyone has told me that last winter was way cold, but these days, it has been so blasted hot that I would welcome that! At night it gets a little cooler but the afternoon is killer.

This week was a good one for sure! We have been teaching Polly a lot (Meire’s daughter) which has been great. She is way awesome and we have been making a lot of progress with her so keep her in your prayers. On saturday night it was Bia´s birthday, the youngest one. She turned nine and so to celebrate, Meire wanted to do a family night and invite a bunch of people and then afterwards, eat cake! We were pretty excited to have this family night on Saturday and it was way awesome! We had a good turnout of people and we left a good message with them and then after sang Happy Birthday to Bia. Polly made a cake for her that was amazing.  It looked professionally done and was so delicious! They bought a candle for her that was one of those sparklers, but it was more like a blow torch candle! haha  It was super funny because Bia got super scared and didn’t want to blow it out so she just backed up against the wall!  Anyway, it was super fun being there and Polly really appreciated the fact that we were there. It’s a great feeling to have the people so interested in having the missionaries in their homes.  I took some pictures but I forgot my camera today in the house so I will have to send them to you next week!

We have been teaching one of Vitor’s friends, who also has the same name Vitor, which has been way good. He went to church with us yesterday and is liking it alot so he’s progressing well. Morgana is also progressing way good. She has been a little sick but this week was better and happy to be at church. Last night we taught her again about temples which was a super awesome lesson. We taught that lady that lives next to her just two times and then never found her in her house again. I thought that she was a friend of Morgana’s but turns out that they are just neighbors and the day of the family night we had with Morgana, she had met her in the street and invited her to the family night. Morgana’s a boss!

I’m still liking my comp a lot. He’s way funny and we’ve had some fun together! He has a little more time than me in the field, about a year and 5 months I think.

Congrats to Scott and Lee for being such good missionaries! You guys are studs!! I read the talk by Elder Holland that he gave in this last conference and I love it a ton! He talks about the costs and blessings of discipleship. He said something that I liked a lot  Elder Holland said "so here we have the burden of those called to bear the messianic message. In addition to teaching, encouraging and cheering people on (that is the pleasant part of discipleship), from time to time these same messengers are called upon to worry to warn and sometimes just to weep (that is the painful part of discipleship)”.

I have learned that as a disciple of Jesus Christ, it will never be just fun and games and success, but that we will be tested and rejected as well.  Yet as we continue to protect His church and the teachings of the Savior through these trials, we will have success.  I know this church is true and love representing it every day!  What a blessing it is to be a missionary!

Love you all have a great week!

Elder Holmes
