Starting out the email today with a shout out to Levcox and her birthday today! Hope you have a good one! Man so many memories in that class! Remember that time you exploded hand sanitizer all over the wall!? haha. Classic! And mom, I know you will be pleased to know that I received both Christmas packages so we are now ready for christmas fun to begin here in Brasil!!
So this week was way good but way different! Elder Ely and I stayed here in Clementino and Elder Assis and Lund were transferred! My new comp is super awesome. His name is Elder Cole! He's from Saint George and has about a year in the mission. He's way cool and we will for sure get along awesome! It's super fun with him and Elder Ely. They are both crazy! We also got another missionary from Nicaragua. He is the first missionary from there to be serving in Brazil! Cool! He's fresh out of the MTC but a way hard worker already!
So this week we made a visit with this lady that had gone to church because a friend had invited her. The first time we went to visit her she wasn't home, but there was this old man there who was either drunk or tired. I'm not sure, but he was so hard to understand. So I leaned in closer to the fence to hear what he was saying. Meanwhile, there were two dogs in front of the gate and as I leaned in, the dog apparently didn't like that and got super angry. He bit me right in the chest! Ohhh it hurt so bad!! Dogs here are so mean. I hate dogs here! haha. I miss my Abbie and Coz! I got a bruise ring around my nipple which was a pretty sweet battle scar, not going to lie! Every time I see a dog now, though, I am super cautious!
The next day we went back to this house and I made sure to stay away from the dog! The lady that we visited with was so amazingly awesome! She is definitely the most happy person I have met in brazil! I was like Wow, she's too happy!! haha. Turns out though as we were teaching her she told us that just about two weeks ago she was super depressed and was thinking about taking her life. She was so depressed that she just didn't want to go on. That week one of her friends invited her to church and she said she would go. When she was at church, she said she felt so much happiness and found a purpose in her life! I cannot even describe how happy she was. She literally used the word 'alegria', which is joy, like 100 times! It was such a testimony to me as to the power this church has to change lives and to help people feel the spirit! Just think, if her friend hadn't have simply invited her, she would have made a decision that would have been devastating. We never know anyone's circumstances. We simply need to invite everyone to feel the love that our Heavenly Father has for everyone! It was such a testimony booster of the truth of this church. All she did was enter the church and her mood changed literally 180 degrees! So flippen awesome! And it was a member who helped her, so remember to always be an example to everyone. Always!!
I hope everyone is awesome. I pray for you all every night! Have a great trip to Mexico!!
Love you all,
Elder Holmes
