Oi from Brazil!

Hello everyone!

I will start out the email with answering some of mom and dads questions because i know I’m pretty bad at doing that! Mom asked about that lady that went to church this last week if we had taught her or anything. She doesn’t live in our area or even our zone so we passed her to the missionaries there where she lives. She lives pretty far away. I’m still liking being a zone leader but it is a ton of work, but it has been fun and i have grown a lot. I don’t see the president a lot, just every once in a while. This week we have a multi zone meeting with him which I am super stoked for! It should be super awesome. I love the president so much. He is great! It has been way cool because I’ve been able to work closely with him. I learn so much from him every single time. He is such an inspired man, it’s incredible! As for the couple that needs to get married, we are hoping that his certificate for divorce gets here this month so that we can get him married to his new wife in October. Like always, though, Brazil takes its time with stuff like this! Super annoying but hey what can ya do! My talk yesterday went well. I spoke on service which is always a winner! it went well. I like talking in sacrament meeting. It’s a fun experience and I always feel like I learn so much every time I give a talk.

This week flew by like every other week. Time sure flies by fast! The last week or so we have been teaching a lady named Maria and her son Ivan. Ivan is about 30 or so. We found him making contacts in the street. They are both super awesome and have a ton of desire. Yesterday they were at church and they loved it! Maria said she adored everything about it. She said she has been to a ton of churches but that she thinks God is indicating to her that she should join this one! Of course He is! It's the true one!! They are both so great and I have enjoyed teaching them. Ivan is usually more quiet but after church yesterday he was all smiles and excited! Oh boy, the things the church can do in your life are immediate, huh?

The ward got super excited as well because the sisters in our ward taught a man that everyone in the ward knows. His wife got baptized 12 years ago and is now the president of the relief society for the stake, but he never was baptized and has been pretty closed to the church. But this week he was baptized and is as happy as ever. It was pretty cool to see all the members gain more hope in teaching and baptizing their family members who aren’t yet members. We started teaching a man whose wife got baptized 7 years ago but he never did for various reasons. His sister is hopeful that we can teach and baptize him as well! It will be hard but miracles always happen!

This week I have been studying a talk given by Elder Packer that is incredible! It is called the Candle of the Lord. If you have not read it you need to read it. And if you have already read it, go ahead and read it again! I have learned so much just studying that talk. It is so interesting how the spirit works. I never understood how Laman and Lemuel could have so little faith when they had seen an angel! Nut what I have learned is that they saw him with their eyes but didn’t feel with their hearts and thus weren’t converted. I have never seen an angel, or had a joseph smith experience, but I know with all my heart that the church is true. How? i don’t know exactly how, but I simply know that the spirit has testified to me in my heart and in my mind, in ways that sometimes I didn’t even realize it was happening!

The church is true! General conference is coming! I hope everyone will start now and prepare to listen and then to follow the words of our prophet!

Have a great week!!

Elder Holmes
