I'm Loving It Here!

Here are a few pics for your enjoyment.  The first is of me with my district. I couldn't quite get my finger on Brazil, so I just changed my mission!  haha.

Another of me with my friend Elder Moeller, who left this week for Portugal.

Well hey everyone!!

I'm super jeolous that you are all in Lake Powell without me! Man that really is the best trip ever!! I hope you are having a great time and shredding it up big time for me! Be safe!

I'll start out by wishing a happy birthday to my man Lee!! Happy birthday bro!! You're an adult now.  How crazy is that!! Hope you have a great day and know that i love you like crazy!

Things this week have been super good! Elder Anderson left on Tuesday morning so I've been comps with Elder Fisher for the last few days! So far it has been super awesome He's a great missionary!! He's also from Texas. What the heck? Why are they all from Texas??? Anyway, we have been teaching twice as many lessons because we have been teaching the "investigators" that Elder Anderson and I were teaching as well as the ones they were teaching.  So two lessons a day!  Our teachers said we could drop two of them but we just couldn't do that. It's too much fun to teach them!!

Oh my gosh. The coolest story ever! So here in the MTC there is this thing called TRC where random people come in to volunteer and you teach them lessons and stuff. Usually it's like returned missionaries that come in, especially for portuguese, so we can teach them in portuguese. But there was this younger lady, a non-member, who came in and she spoke mandarin. So the Missionaries taught her in mandarin and she got baptized like weeks later! It's so cool because I know the missionaries realize that they were not good at speaking the language at all, but the lady said that when she was with them she could feel the spirit so strong that she wanted to get baptized! Trust me, I've heard Elders bare their testimonies to me in those Chinese languages and they like strugs-ville through the whole thing. So to commit someone to baptism just proved to me that it's all definitely by the spirt!! So cool.  The church is so true! She bore her testimony to us in one of the devotionals and it was so spiritual!!

So I've kept my eye out for Elder Nicholson but haven't found him yet! I did see Elder Rockwood though! He's going to Japan and came in this week! It was fun to see him! Elder Phipps got his Visa as well, so he left on Tuesday down to Brazil! It's getting pretty crazy. I expect more of our district will get their visas soon! President Pinho's (my soon-to-be mission president) son works at the MTC and our whole district met him the other day! I'm not sure if its the one that Scott knows or if it's an older brother.  Everyone was asking him questions and I forgot to ask, but he's way cool and got us super pumped to get to Interlagos! He said that his dad is a way cool and nice guy and loves to joke around IF you follow the rules! So he sounds like my type of guy!! He also said that Interlagos is the second highest baptizing mission in Brazil!! I got pretty excited about that. Brother Rodrigues also gets us way excited to get down there! He is such a chill guy and Brazil just sounds so awesome!! And I've also learned that portugese sounds way sicker than spanish, let's just face that right now. It's like a more relaxed spanish that chill people like me enjoy using! haha! I'm super excited to be able to speak it! It's slowly coming along. I can communicate most things I want to say in lessons, I think! Not too sure what I sound like but to me it sounds pretty good!!  And we learned that the accent in Sao Paulo is way easier than some other, so that will be good for me. I can get away with sounding more gringo!

The Temple opens up this Sunday so we will be able to go next p-day to a session which I am stoked for! Other than that, things are going way well here! I'm already getting tired of the food but I've started to eat the more sketchy meals so I can prepare my stomach for when I get down to brazil! haha! And Mom, I've been using all those candies you sent me with all the scripture mastery scriptures on them.  I've been making everyone else find the scripture if they want me to share! haha! Thanks for all the treats. They are awesome!! I'll get on a little later and send some pics, but hopefully you are all doing well! I'm doing great and loving it so far! The church is so true and I wouldn't want to be anywhere else at this point in my life!!  (not even at Lake Powell! haha) I love you all!!

Love,

Elder Holmes
